Sculptor : Michael & Alan Perry, Bob Naismith, Jes Goodwin
This boxed set contained 11 figures (Bugbear, 2 Giant Rats, Skeleton, Stirge, Kobold, 2 Fire Beetles, Gnoll, Giant Toad, and Orc) designed to provide a novice DM with a selection of basic low-level D&D monsters. Note that these figures were sculpted with integral metal shields instead of the plastic ones supplied with the later blister pack range.
Dungeon Monsters Box. Art by John Blanche
Bug Bear. This Bugbear wields a spiked wooden club and a long, notched knife. He wears tattered remnants of scavenged armour.
Fire Beetle 1. This is the first of a pair of Fire Beetles. This one has his body raised upwards at the rear.
Fire Beetle 2. This model is pretty similar to the other Fire Beetle, but it's body lies flat to the ground.
Giant Rat 1. The first of two Giant Rat miniatures in the set, this one looks like it's warily creeping forwards.
Giant Rat 2. This is the second Giant Rat, sitting back on it's haunches, ready to pounce.
Gnoll. This Gnoll is armed with a polearm and a spiked shield, and wears battered scale and leather armour.
Kobold. This is a pretty weedy looking Kobold, not really of the same standard to the packs later produced.
Orc. This is an Orc, armed with a polearm and a wooden shield.
Skeleton. This is a very nicely sculpted Skeleton, standing in a menacing pose, armed with a longsword and a battered shield.
Stirge. This is a Stirge, a hideous blood-sucking bat-like creature.
Toad. This is a Giant Toad, a nice model originally cast with a solid metal base rather than a slotta-tab.
